Checking Travis County Warrants
Match the office to the case. A traffic ticket and a felony charge take different paths. The Travis County Sheriff's Office Central Warrants line is the county-level first call, though its old public search is expired. Austin's APD list covers APD warrants only. A citation may belong to one of five Justice of the Peace courts or a city court. Each keeps its own records. Public access has limits, so have the name, date of birth, citation or cause number, and the court or city if known. Verify a match with the issuing office before paying, appearing, or arranging surrender.
- Call Central Warrants for a Travis County sheriff-held warrant; ask which court issued it.
- Use Austin's official APD warrant page only for an APD matter, and note its APD-only limit.
- For a county traffic case, call the JP court named on the citation; for an Austin case, use the Austin Municipal Court portal or clerk.
- If the online source is incomplete, send a narrow written request to the office holding the record.
- If a warrant appears, ask the issuing court about status and options before making a payment or surrender plan.
Travis County's Expired Sheriff Warrant Search
The old Travis County WOW address now redirects to the Sheriff's warrant page, and what loads is an Expired notice with no searchable fields. The warning does not stop there. It also says results may not be complete or accurate. So the page works as a status note. It is not a working public list. A blank screen cannot confirm a recall. The former county warrant endpoint shows the expired state, while the current Sheriff's warrant page carries the same limitation. For a current answer, call Central Warrants or the issuing clerk.

This Travis County page reflects the old endpoint in its expired state. It is not a live warrant search or a result.
Types of Warrants in Travis County
Which warrant applies in Travis County depends on the case and the court controlling it. A charge-based arrest warrant is one kind. It starts with a sworn complaint and a probable-cause review. A bench warrant or capias is another. That one usually follows a missed setting. A capias pro fine arrives after judgment, when the fine or costs go unpaid under the court's order. Search warrants are different. They authorize a search for evidence, not a public self-check. Family-court process follows its own rules, so the word warrant alone does not identify the right clerk.
| Type | How It Arises | Issuing Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | Complaint and probable-cause review | Magistrate or authorized judge |
| Bench warrant / capias | Missed court date or order | Court handling the case |
| Capias pro fine | Unpaid court judgment | JP or municipal court |
| Search warrant | Request to search for evidence | Authorized magistrate |
Travis County Warrant Searches Stay Separate
No single public database holds every Travis County warrant. The searches stay separate by design. Felonies generally run through district court and the District Clerk. Class A and B misdemeanors use County Courts at Law and the County Clerk. Traffic and fine-only matters may stay with a JP or municipal court. Five JP precincts keep separate contacts. Constables process and serve traffic and hot-check warrants, including some from other jurisdictions. The issuing court alone controls status, bond, reset, or recall.
What a Travis County Warrant Record Shows
A Travis County warrant result may show a case number, party, charge, court, date, bond, status, or serving agency. Fields vary by source. Odyssey says a warrant-number result may show only a summary. The full detail sits in the associated case record. One label is not the whole case. Status terms like active, recalled, served, returned, or quashed each describe a different event, and local interfaces share no one code legend.
| Cause number | Felony records commonly use a D-1-DC prefix pattern; confirm the exact entry with the District Clerk. |
|---|---|
| Charge | Offense and case type, if public. |
| Issuing court | The court that controls the warrant and its remedy. |
| Bond | A court-set release condition, not the same as a fine. |
| Status | Active / recalled / served; ask the issuer to define any code. |
Travis County Warrant Case Numbers
Odyssey accepts party, case, cross-reference, sheriff's-office, or booking numbers. Smart Search and advanced filters exist too. Warrant-number search, though, is restricted to authorized agencies. That makes it no public countywide warrant lookup. Searches cap at 200 results, show 50 at first, and allow up to six columns. Pair a name with a case number for context, then ask the District or County Clerk about status.
Who Issues and Serves Travis County Warrants
In Travis County, judges and magistrates sign the warrants, then hand them to agencies that serve the paperwork. TCSO Central Warrants is the county's practical contact point. Constables deliver traffic and hot-check warrants for the JP courts and other jurisdictions. Austin Police Court Services, meanwhile, takes care of city Class C and traffic cases. Austin municipal and county court matters run through separate phone routes, so call the right court. For records, the split matters: the District Clerk holds felony files, and the County Clerk keeps the County Court at Law misdemeanors. A serving agency can tell you whether a warrant went out the door, but only the issuing court can recall it, set bond, or schedule a new hearing.

5555 Airport Blvd.
Austin, TX 78751

The Sheriff's official contact page names Central Warrants. Confirm routing there. Never pay a caller claiming to be an officer for a Travis County warrant.

This Travis County page publishes the Central Warrants number. TCSO warns that its officers never phone people to demand warrant payments, so treat any such call as a scam.
Five Travis County JP Warrant Precincts
A ticket from a county road, constable, or DPS officer may be filed with a JP instead of Austin Municipal Court. The citation should name the precinct or filing court. Each precinct has its own clerk, phone, and payment path. Start with the court printed on the ticket. The county JP page lists all five Travis County offices. It warns that failure to appear or pay can bring a warrant and a reimbursement fee. The listed maximum is up to $75 per charge. Ask how it applies.

That Travis County contact table helps you route a question. It is not a warrant roster. Confirm the court before you travel or pay.
Resolving a Travis County Warrant
Call the issuing court first. Ask whether the Travis County warrant is still active, what caused it, and whether the next step is an appearance, bond, payment, reset, or a motion. Facing a serious charge? Speak with a licensed Texas criminal-defense attorney before arranging a surrender. Bond alone does not end the case. Keep every receipt, order, and email. Ask when the court will recall the warrant and which serving agency must get the update. A constable payment may take one to three business days to process, with recall described for the next business day after payment, though that timing is not a rule for every court.
Before acting: use a published court or agency number, and ask counsel about surrender or bond when a criminal warrant may be active.
Austin's Safe-Haven Court Path
Austin Community Court describes a voluntary safe-haven route for eligible Austin citations and warrants. A person may see a judge during posted windows without arrest on eligible matters. Virtual Wednesday dockets serve people outside Austin. The promise belongs to that court alone. It does not cover a Travis County felony, a JP case, or another city's warrant. Check the court page for location and hours before going.
Public Access to Travis County Warrant Records
The Texas Public Information Act covers records that local government holds, subject to exceptions. Travis County has no central open-records desk. Send a sheriff request to TCSO, felony records to the District Clerk, County Court at Law records to the County Clerk, and JP or city records to the issuing court. TCSO wants the request in writing. Give a detailed description of the record, and TCSO says it responds within ten business days. Access still has limits. Active-investigation records, juvenile material, sealed filings, and protected identifiers may be withheld or redacted. A request can seek existing Travis County records. But the office need not create a new answer or research a case for the requester.
Key rules:
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 sets the public-information rule and exceptions.
Sections 552.021 and 552.221 address public access and production of available records.
Section 552.108 can protect some law-enforcement information; Texas Family Code Chapter 58 limits juvenile-record disclosure.
How Austin Amnesty Changed the Local Picture
Austin's 2025 annual report records 1,854 warrants cleared. It also lists $87,751 in fees waived and $181,236 collected. Those are Austin court totals, not Travis County results. The 2026 program ran March 23 through April 17 and has ended. The figures describe past activity, not a current offer, so ask the city court about ordinary mitigation or any later program.
Travis County Municipal Courts Stay Separate
City citations stay with their own courts. Felony, misdemeanor, and JP cases follow their issuing courts. Austin's police list is APD-only, nearby cities run their own municipal dockets, and a Travis County search will not reach them, so check the city printed on the citation first.
